5k Countdown – 14 weeks to go

In an effort to rid myself of the extra pounds put on this winter, hibernating with a plenty of comfort food, I am committed to working them off by training for a 5k run taking place on June 5th. Yes, it’s the morning of my oldest’s high school graduation ceremony, but if I train properly, I won’t even break a sweat. Right?

My first foray into this new regime was a 2 mile walk. I brought my 12 year old with me. We slogged through unshoveled sidewalks, avoiding puddles and little green goose “deposits”.  He didn’t see much sense in just walking. Where’s the fun in that? But it was a great way for us to catch up and share some laughs, just the two of us. Before we new it, we were home. It was cold, but it felt good. And, although it was just about dinner time, it was still light out. Another plus.

Today the forecast is calling for a couple inches of lake effect snow. This might be a little tougher than I thought.

I ought to keep my pool pass laced into my shoes for motivation.

If you have any other ideas, I’m all ears!

  1. Awesome a 5K! My husband and I started a workout program at the end of January called P90X. We have 30 days down and are still going strong. Even though the weight hasn’t dropped too drastically like I had hoped I’ve lost 2 inches and gone down a jean size WOHOO! My husbands weight is falling off of him (darn guys) One of the best parts is that we are inside the warm house the whole time. It is definately challenging but we are enjoying the time together (even though it is at 5am) and pushing each other to reach the 90 day goal and beyond. I would highly recommend this to anyone up for a challenge and for getting into awesome shape. Good Luck with the 5K training and I look forward to seeing your progress!

  2. We, too, have tried the P90X program. It is indeed a good one (if you stick to it). It provides a healthy meal plan too. The only problem is we that we started getting “creative” w/ the P90X program…meaning we started to skip a day or two here and there. One year later, our exercise equipment has collected dust. I guess all I can say is that motivation begins and ends w/ you! So, do what you must to make that 5k run! You should definitely keep the pool pass laced into your shoes. Or tape up a photo of that certain bikini (or one-piece) onto the bathroom mirror. Whatever your motivation, I wish you lots of luck! Will keep tuning in to follow your progress!
